The Inland Empire Scholarship Fund held its annual holiday party at UC Riverside.

For Pictures of the Event:

The event was attended by our generous donors, our scholarship recipients, and  family members, all who have been so supportive to our IESF scholars. The event was sponsored by:

  • Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, Mr. James Sandoval
  • Dr. Monte Perez, President of the Moreno Valley Campus of the Riverside Community College District
  • Dr. Noelia Vela, Chancellor of the San Bernardino Valley College District
  • The Honorable Joe Baca, Congressman of the 43rd District

Hector Gonzalez, a recipient and fourth-year mechanical engineering student at Cal Poly Pomona was the Master of Ceremonies.  The highlight of the event was testimonials by four of our recipients, all who are well-advanced in their degree goals.   Student presenters were Eddie Rocha, Jose Sarmiento, Ruben Munoz and Elena Gonzalez.

Eddie Rocha has completed his BS in Computer Science, and is now a software engineer with Northrup-Grumman.  Jose Sarmiento has begun his second year of medical school in the UC Riverside Bio-Med program.  Ruben Munoz is in his fourth year of medical school at UCLA, after completing a Masters in Public Health at USC, and is currently interviewing for internships in the Inland Empire area so that he can give back to the community where he was raised.  Elena Gonzalez announced that she would be attending her graduation from the Public Health program at Cal State San Bernardino the following day!

IESF scholarship recipients not only receive financial help with their college and post-graduate education, but they can also grow from the mentoring, advice and networking that IESF has provided them.  The principal theme for IESF is developing scholars whose goal is to give back to the community.
